The CSSD staff are integral members of the surgical team; without their care and oversight of the instruments, no procedure would be successful. The CSSD staff help save lives by adhering to proper cleaning, handling, and storage of instruments, and following manufacturers’ maintenance schedules. This CE activity outlines the responsibilities of the sterile processing department, surgical technologists, and other relevant staff in the handling, processing, inspection, sterilisation, and loading of select surgical instruments before, during, and following the procedure.
